When the Song Says It All for Oscar 2006 (censored)

Wow, I am so glad that someone watched the Oscars last night. The Guardian Unlimited UK gives a delightful minute by minute of this award ceremony. I love that about the British they can hang in where others don’t really want to go.

Best song:
“It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” from “Hustle and Flow”.

Personally I thought this song was a bit too whiney to be real. The cleanup of the song for Oscar glorification says it all. Call women by their right name why don’t cha? But then would you have an award-winning song? Denise Sheppard at Amazon.com calls the song “blacksploitation-affected” and finds some real gifts in the “Hustle and Flow” soundtrack album: Tell Me Why,” and “Still Tippin’ .

The Hollywood Smash Film was “Crash”. This awardee was unexpected. Perhaps because this film accesses gender and race in the U.S.A. a bit more honestly than even Oscar’s hit song.
