Design without Smarts in the City

breadcrumbs gone; gates up; oh my! © 2008 bubblegumvision

Sometimes walking in the New York City is an unbelievable experience.

You find that suddenly the bread crumbed path you left in the morning …
so you could find your way back home should your landmark be demolished at lunchtime

Can you find Columbus? © 2008 bubblegumvision

has all been gobbled up by … loathsome police gates.

What was once an already too-small-to-pass sidewalk alongside our once beloved Central Park West is now but a mere suffocating sliver…

This unbelievable experience is what is known as Design without Smarts. If you know Columbus Circle it is a highly congested area with massive shanty town construction and it is a transportation hub for the people of New York City. Putting NFL Kickoff chaos in the circle was nothing more than Design without Smarts.
