Those who passby or find space at 590 Madison’s public space in the NYC should RSVP, respondez s’il vous plait, respond please. Welcome to Jean Dubuffet’s “Welcome Parade,” the largest piece of his “Hourloupe cycle.”
Pace Wildstein explains the artist and his 5 painted figures in 3D space:
Jean Dubuffet coined the art style “Art Brut.” His work expresses influences he sought out; from the socially isolated and the art of children.
The “monumental” sculptures in the project are designed “as a dialogue with passersby,” each painted red, white and blue with black lines. They represent a major exploration of architecture and 3-D space; “drawings which extend and expand in space.”
